Worlds Colliding

One of the great things about being home for a little while is the opportunity to catch up with so many of our good friends in the Rochester area.  Yesterday afternoon Ryan and John along with his great family all stopped by just in time to meet our good friends Muhammad and Shayna who came up from DC.  It’s nice when worlds collide and you share stories from different times in your life.

Worlds Colliding

Samantha challenged Ryan and I both to a game of chess.  This is a no win situation; she is a member of the chess club at school and very good.  It didn’t help us that she had the full support of her sister Christina.

After working through a number of Belgian beers, Ryan, Muhammad, Shayna, Shannon and I grabbed some Mexican food in Webster before another round of drinks at Daisy Dukes.  The highlight of the night was Muhammad riding the mechanical bull.  Muhammad, you have a career waiting in Texas.

Exhausted, I had to drink a Red Bull to get the caffeine I needed to get through the night.  It was just the right fix!  We crossed the street to the Webster Cinema and caught “The Black Swan.”  Really enjoyed the movie, but it’s going to take a couple of days of thinking about to determine just how much.  It was a film interpretation of the ballet “The Swan Lake;” a very dark version.  With Natalie Portman you can’t go wrong; Shannon and I always like her films.

I’m so jealous! I want to see Black Swan so badly but alas–it doesn’t seem to be playing in the Roanoke Valley. Go figure!

I’m so glad you guys had a fun filled Christmas with so many friends and family! There is nothing like that to make your heart feel light. I have your Christmas presents I need to send to you –I guess you’ll get to have Christmas Part Deux–just need to figure out when you’ll be home to open them.
Stay warm in this cold weather (that’s code for SNUGGLE UP!) LOL!

    Love you guys!!!

    Sissy

Bret you weren’t even tempted to get on the mechanical bull???

PS- so we saw Black Swan (on your recommendation)…. strange movie but I weirdly loved it. I also have always loved Natalie Portman, I think she played a great role. The movie was very dark and disturbing. Mario was very disturbed by the whole thing, but I loved the suspense and mystery to it. Just wanted to share.

    Hey Bret and Shan,

It was SOOOOOO wonderful to see you on Christmas Eve. and all be together! We missed you Aar, Elisa , Kayla and Ashlyn – hope you had a wonderful Christmas! “Happy Birthday” today Aar!
As we ate leftover chili tonight and warmed our bones, we were reminded of all the warmth and love that filled our home the other night. We are certainly blessed to have such a close family that has so much fun together (and can even forgive each other’s ruthlessness during the white elephant gift exchange!) PRICELESS!
So glad to hear about your Christmas Day and also know that you guys have been able to meet up with special friends while you’re home. We hope these days in Pville will provide some rest, fun and rejuvenation before you head back out again to Boston. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!

What is a “blue bull?” Sounds great… I’m a big fan of Blue Moon since you talk about belgian beers… you have to try Chimay Gran Reserve (a high gravity beer) Very tasty!

One of my favorite adaptations of beer is called a “Dark side of the moon” or a “Black and Blue” which are Blue Moon layered with Guiness…. the dark, rich flavor of the guiness only enhances the sweet, light flavors of that golden, delicious Blue Moon at the bottom…

Glad to hear you’re enjoying your Christmas, it truely is the most wonderful time– of the year. I recently started a new job 2 weeks ago, and took over a restaurant, very challenging, when my big boss asked me how today went, I simply replied, “Today was my best day…”

    Regards,
    Scott

I’m still not quite sure how i got talked into the mechanical bull riding, but I’d say my abilities are sub-par. I’ll have to watch John Travolta’s “Urban Cowboy” a few more times then try it again. Ha.
