Get Out of Jail Free

After days of riding from dawn to dusk, yesterday was a day of relaxation.  I woke up and took it easy at the timeshare for most of the morning and afternoon while Mom and Dad cruised the coast, Aaron and family celebrated the Chinese New Year in Chinatown (or just went shopping in Chinatown), and Shannon soaked up some rays on the beach.  The last day of a vacation is always a little depressing with the next day’s looming departure.

With big plans of using our travel vouchers for a unique trip, we broke down and used them to get tickets to fly home to Rochester.  With such a late purchase, the tickets were extremely expensive, so we used the vouchers as a sort of “Get Out of Jail Free Card.”  All of your great travel ideas were fun, we’ll just have to hope for more delays and broken TVs so we can draw a new “Chance” card.  We’re flying home to meet with my orthopedic surgeon, Dr O’Keefe, about potentially getting a couple of my larger tumors removed which I hope would improve circulation in my right leg and alleviate some pinching.  Then we’ll be driving up to Boston for my routine appointment for the clinical trial.

We will be thinking about you Bret. Hope to hear good news from your doctors visit. The bike ride reminded me of what a great and relaxing experience it was The temperature in Orlando is perfect right now for a ride. Now I just have to convince Aaron to take me out for a ride. 😉

Brace yourself–it’s freezing and there’s over a foot of snow. You could play a mental game with yourself to make it more fun. Pretend you’re on the Jamaican bobsled team from Cool Runnings and that it’s your 1st trip to Cananda…

  3. Cousin Mike says:

you could pretend that you’re Sly Stallone and you’ve traveled to the USSR to fight the big Russian and are training in Siberia to prepare…

    OR finally,
perhaps you are here for the Winter “X-games”. This stuff is crazy…

If you were flying home last night – perhaps you were delayed/canceled already due to the weather and you already have more vouchers in your hand! This is the time of year I’m glad I enjoy skiing/skating, otherwise it would make for a long winter in Syracuse (& Wayland). I’ll have to look for some ski team/track pictures from HS to send to you. I enjoy following your travels daily. Hopefully your doctor will be able to help make you more comfortable and you receive good news!

    Hello Road Warriors!

Leaving the sunny climes of California to head to Rochester–hmm, sounds like someone needs a snow fix 🙂 Should be beautiful this time of year–all that snow (quick! Name that movie!) But there is nothing like sleeping in your own bed and I know you guys probably need a small dose of home right about now.

I DO have a rather large box of Christmas presents still waiting patiently on my floor to send to you! Perhaps if you’re there long enough, I can ship them out this week and you can have the holidays part deux!

Bret–I hope the docs can help out and alleviate some of the pain/pinching and we’re all saying prayers that the trial has been successful.

Travel safe you guys!! And here’s to hoping for delayed flights, crappy food and no TVs so you can get another voucher or two!

What a wonderful trip you had with your family.Your stop at San Antonio reminded us of our visits we had with our son Mark.
Looking forward to spring we have a large fishing boat at Pultneyville if your interested.
We hope all goes well with your care.

  9. Uncle Lee and Aunt Sharon says:

    Bret, Shan, Bets and Jim,
Hope Mike’s movie pics have helped prep you for some snow and winter weather but even if Rachacha is not sunny California, just keep telling yourself……there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home….there’s no place like home! (Does another movie come to mind? Mike, could you plug in Dorothy clicking her ruby slippers together here?) It always feels good to come back to your own house, sleep in your own bed and be cozy at home and relax after being away. Hope to get to see you at some point, but in the meantime, safe travels and all our love, prayers and positive thoughts for those Dr. visits, improvement for your leg, and success with the clinical trial. Sending warm hugs to you all!
